Summer is a wonderful time to get out and enjoy everything Plymouth has to offer. Whether you’re looking to meet new people, explore local history or simply spend time somewhere different, there are plenty of activities to enjoy across the city.

Here are five ideas to inspire your next day out.

Join a Walk & Talk at Central Park

If you’re looking for a relaxed way to spend a Tuesday morning, why not join the weekly Walk & Talk hosted by Central Park Community and St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth?

The walks begin every Tuesday at 10.30am and offer a friendly opportunity to enjoy a gentle stroll while chatting with others.

Afterwards, you’re welcome to stay for the Compassionate Café, held from 11am until 1pm at the Central Park Community Sports Hub. It’s a welcoming space to enjoy a hot drink, conversation and a sense of community.

Visit The Box

Whether you’ve lived in Plymouth all your life or are still discovering the city, The Box is well worth a visit.

Home to fascinating exhibitions, local history, artwork and collections celebrating Plymouth’s heritage, there’s always something new to explore. Best of all, general admission is free, making it a great day out for all ages.

Take your time exploring the galleries or relax with a coffee in the café afterwards.

Spend a Day at Saltram

Just a short distance from the city centre, Saltram offers beautiful scenery and plenty of places to explore.

From peaceful woodland walks to open meadows, farmland and saltmarshes, the estate is home to a wide variety of habitats and wildlife.

Whether you’re interested in history, nature or simply enjoying the surroundings, Saltram has something for everyone.

Meet New People at Jolly Elders

Looking to make new friends or enjoy a regular social afternoon?

Jolly Elders, run by Age UK Plymouth, meets every Friday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at the William and Patricia Venton Centre in Mount Gould.

The sessions include games, quizzes, crafts, refreshments and plenty of friendly conversation in a welcoming environment.

There is a small charge of £6.50 to attend.

 Enjoy Plymouth’s Waterfront

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy some of Plymouth’s best-known waterfront locations.

Take a stroll around the Barbican, watch the boats from Plymouth Hoe, or enjoy lunch at Royal William Yard while taking in the views across the water.

Sometimes, spending a few hours in familiar surroundings is all you need to make the most of a summer’s day.

Making the Most of Summer

You don’t have to travel far to enjoy something new. Plymouth is full of places to explore, community groups to join and opportunities to connect with others throughout the summer months.
